red means stop
Speaking of flashing red lights, I just got back from ranting at Buddy in the 101 Cafe about why it is Los Angeles can’t keep the traffic lights working. At least half of the traffic lights in Hollywood were on the fritz tonight, and some of the major intersections were total clusterfucks on the way to Amoeba tonight for the Futureheads instore (which was fantastic, by the way - more on that later.)
I just wonder what exactly is going on in this city at any given time that is more important than making sure the traffic lights are working. No doubt the police must have their hands full in this neck of the woods, but really, couldn’t they put a little nine volt battery backup in the traffic lights or something? How difficult could it be to time a couple of traffic lights? Why is it every other traffic light in every city I’ve ever visited has seemed to have a handle on making the red and green reliably alternate, but in Los Angeles, the original Autopia, the city that’s not so much as place to live as an intricate shrine to the idea of the Automobile, this seems to have totally foxed them?

[...] it’s a city of contrasts. But I still wish they could fix the traffic lights. Filed under: cars • driving • los angeles • rain | on September 21st, 2005 [...]
